People Loving People provides food, warm clothing, heat provisions in the winter, cold water in the summer, basic hygiene items and more for those who are homeless. For families who are transitioning out of homelessness, they provide dishes, furniture, work clothes, cleaning supplies, home decor, linens and more for their new home… charging absolutely nothing for the goods and comfort they provide.
People Loving People was founded by Donna Cruz to help the homeless by showing them love, encouragement, and providing assistance to get them back on their feet. After she introduced Joseph Clay and Kathy Douglas to the homeless people that were living at Tent City in Nashville, they were inspired to found The Matthew 25:35 Initiative. In December 2009, ministries combined forces and in March 2010 became a Non-Profit Corporation.
The Ministry works with government agencies, hotels and shelters, hospitals and doctors, to fulfill the housing, employment, transportation and medical needs of those who have found themselves displaced and homeless. Local hospitals and nursing homes are also recipients as they volunteer to visit the sick. They even take care of the pets of displaced and homeless people, ensuring comfort during the most desperate times.
Unlike most organizations where only a low percentage of the donated money gets to the cause, the Ministry ensures 96% of donations made by the private sector are applied to support the cause. Cash donations go for Hygiene Kits, Clothes, School Supplies, Blankets, Food, Water, etc and to help out with expenses of those in need to help pay the bills and keep them in their homes.
Located in Nashville, TN, the Ministry has also helped families in GA with Christmas and the homeless in FL. Their foundational motivation is built upon Basic Bible principles which state Love each other and take care of those who are in need, including:
- People and Families displaced due to Natural Disasters and Fire
- People and Families who have come upon hard times and need help paying the basic utilities (Water, Electric, Gas), food, and even school supplies for the kids.
- Children’s Toys for Christmas and in Hospitals.
- Children School Supplies.
- The Homeless who have nowhere to go due to unforeseen circumstances and are living in make shift camps and Tent Cities.
- The Pets of these people in need!
- The Vehicles in need of repair so people can get to work, the doctor or shop for food.
